According to data released by Czapp, the export of bottle-grade PET (HS 39076110) from China rose to over 475,000 tons in November of the past year, a 27% increase compared to October and a 20% increase from November of the previous year. This aligns with the growth in October orders, and many are expected to be realized in the first quarter of this year. November orders are anticipated to be around 400,000 tons, and the export in the first half of December is also very strong.
Additionally, China's exports to India continue to grow despite anti-dumping measures imposed by India. In November, India remained the largest destination, with customs data showing 36,600 tons, a 55% increase from October. The total volume of China's exports to India in the first eleven months increased elevenfold, reaching approximately 190,000 tons. In November, Russia, Algeria, East Africa, and the United Arab Emirates followed, but the situation in the Red Sea is expected to significantly impact the export scenario. Looking at the chart, China's native bottle-grade PET exports were only lower than the same period last year from May to August, but in the fourth quarter, it significantly exceeded the same period last year. Therefore, it is almost certain that the export volume for the entire year of 2023 will surpass that of 2022.
Recently, the European rPET bottle flake market has also been recovering. According to ICIS, the main drivers are the rise in prices and demand for bottle flakes in Europe. The price of FD (Free Delivered) transparent bottle flakes in Southern Europe has increased by 50 euros per ton. In Italy, FD transparent bottle flakes have reached 1,000 euros per ton, and Italian recycling companies expect the next auction price for bottle flakes to likely exceed 500 euros per ton.
Furthermore, European recycling companies claim a noticeable trend of increased demand in January and February. Buyers are inquiring about bottle flakes and particles, driven by the rise in bottle flake prices and concerns about further increases. However, whether this trend will continue for a longer period remains to be observed.
